The Hong Kong Post

Even if you look it up on the Internet, you won\'t find any national postal system or whatsoever in Hong Kong. In fact, Hong Kong is but one of the very few countries which, up until now, have not set up a standard national system for postal services, along with countries Vietnam, Panama and Ireland. But that is not to say that postal services in Hong Kong are sub par. Far from it, to be frank, thanks in large part to the efforts of Hong Kong Post, one of the region\'s best agencies in terms of postal services.

Postal codes are nonexistent in Hong Kong. Don\'t ask why, but so far local post offices (Hong Kong Post included) find no reason whatsoever to implement such a system. So if you live in the Hong Kong side and plan to mail someone living in the Kowloon side, then you don\'t have to bother looking up his or her postal code on the directory. If you can find a postal code directory, that is.

As expected, Hong Kong Post dedicates itself to providing a wide range of postal services to its customers, and its official website is proof of that dedication. Examples of such services include:

Multiple postal services – Hong Kong Post postal services are divided into four categories:

  • International mail – includes single mail to Taiwan, Macau, China and overseas of printed papers, postcards, letters, parcel and small packet
  • Local mail – includes single mail to any location within Hong Kong of parcels, small packets, postcards or letters
  • International bulk mail – includes overseas air mail services for packages over 5kg for one country
